Eight projects were completed in 2010, benefiting 287 families in seven communities. Five projects are now underway, expanding our outreach to 207 additional families. These projects include clean water for personal use, irrigation for crops, and agricultural and livestock projects. In addition QBL will continue to evaluate previous projects, and update and modify conditions to improve the efficiency of these projects.
Projects Finished in 2010
Tupaltupa Chickens – Through this project, 21 families will improve their nutrition and income with chicken coops, chickens and training provided by QBL. QBL-UK Contribution: $4,964
Huancuyo Greenhouses – 30 families will improve their nutrition and income in the community of Huancuyo through greenhouses and training provided by QBL. QBL-US Contribution: $17,018
Sora Lupirana Water – 51 families now have access to water and are applying training in hygiene to improve the health of their families. QBL will provide workshops on hygiene, water usage and the operation, administration and sustainability of the system. QBL-US Contribution, $14,536
Qhotia Camelids – This project helped 60 families improve the genetic quality of their llama and alpaca herd through new breeding stock, stabilizing birth and mortality rates, increasing fertility rates, and increasing fiber production and carcass weight. QBL-UK Contribution: $9,766
Hucuri Milluni Irrigation – 61 families have improved their crop production after receiving an irrigation system, and training in production schedules, crop diversification, forage crops, and irrigation system maintenance. QBL-UK Contribution: $15,334
Condo Chejwaya Water – 45 families now have access to water and are applying hygiene education to improve the health of their family. QBL will provide workshops on hygiene, water usage and the operation, administration and sustainability of the system. QBL-UK Contribution: $24,507
Tiquipa Chickens – 19 families received training, chicken coops and chickens in order to provide eggs to their family four times per week. QBL-UK Contribution: $6,776
Evaluation of 2006-07 Projects—QBL continues to evaluate previous projects to monitor their progress and impact in the community. We use these evaluations to improve our current work. The US and UK funded an external consultant to evaluate 27 different projects that were funded in 2006-07. QBL-US and QBL-UK contributions: $3,882
Projects in Progress at the end of 2010
Condoroca Water—This project will provide water to 47 families and train them in hygiene and water system maintanence. This will provide the families with long-term access to clean water and improve the health of their families. QBL-US Contribution: $16,264.
Pachacuti Beans—This project will improve the income of 22 families by providing seeds and training in proper crop management, with a special focus on ecological technologies. QBL-UK Contribution: $4544
Calla Arriba Irrigation—45 families will increase their production by 15% with the provision of this irrigation system. The families will be trained in crops to plant during the dry season. QBL-US Contribution: $13,710.
Quilloma Water Project—This project seeks to provide a water pumps and small gravity fed water systems to 48 families, providing access to clean water and improve their health through training in hygiene. QBL-US Contribution: $15,898.
Reinforcement of 04-05 Projects—88 families from the communities of Sacasaca, Iquiaca and San Martin will receive additional training in order to reinforce their original water and greenhouse projects. QBL-US Contribution: $1,955.
