Board member Pat Close lives in Greenwich, Connecticut. She is currently on her third trip to Bolivia visiting our project sites. We thought you’d like to see this report that she emailed us from La Paz.

We just had a wonderful day visiting our first two projects. We visited the Hucuri Milluni irrigation project and attended the inauguration of the Calla Arriba irrigation project.

US board members Lois Hackney and Pat Close

Both projects appear to be successes. The communities are very happy. The Calla Arriba inauguration was quite an affair, lots of dancing, two bands, a big sound system, lots of speeches (including my own), a ribbon cutting and a hail storm, not to mention the food, the flower leis around our necks, etc.

Reaching our project sites can involve interesting journeys through the Andes

There was a huge number of people there, more than 100. The people were very appreciative. They have worked very hard to bring the irrigation project to fruition and it will have a big impact on their lives. Global warming, lack of water and unpredictability of the rains has hurt their harvest.
